1. There is no universal resume format. There are only guidelines you should follow and the resume samples on this website are intended for that purpose.

2. Our recommendation is DO NOT include a job objective on your resume as objectives change according to the job you’re applying for and are better suited for a cover letter. It also means you don't have to constantly change your resume.

3. If you do choose to put your job objective on your resume, present it in a manner that relates to the company you are applying to and to the job description specifically.

4. Final hiring decisions are rarely based upon resumes alone, however your resume should be a concise, factual, and positive listing of your education, employment history, transferable skills, and accomplishments.

5. Test your resume for relevancy. The information included in your resume should either support your job or career objective directly or support your character in general. If you don't have a definite purpose for including something, leave it out.

6. Be conscious of the continuity of your history. The reader will be looking for reasons to eliminate as many resumes as possible. A gap of unaccountable time is often reason enough for a resume to hit the circular file (trash can).
