What a great response that would be! I would love to see a hiring managers face if a candidate responded this way. It definitely falls under the "brutal honesty" category!

I agree, great response! Of course, you'll be unemployed, but you will live on for years in the HR managers stories!

I was asked the question once, "If you were a soup, what kind would you be?" My response, after sitting there for a few moments was, "Tomato. It goes good with grilled cheese." The interviewer closed his notebook and said thank you, that will be all.

Since a job is NOT an entitlement (a mentality we must get rid of), the question is a very fair and reasonable one. Clearly the potential employee is expected to BRING something of value to the table for the poential employer to bother to consider the value of adding the individual to their payroll and invest in their career. The business engages in the provision or goods and/or services with the goal in mind of generating a PROFIT to run and grow the enterprise while compensating those employees who contribute to it's SUCCESS. The business has NO OBLIGATION to support ANYONE. Rather it is the rest of us (the employees) who have the OBLIGATION to support the business enterprise. The success of the business will allow the employee to enjoy the fruits of it's success through various means, including potential PROMOTION, PAY INCREASE and the like. If I'm "that good", the burden is on me to DEMONSTRATE it and EARN the employer's recognition and reward for a job well done. If I'm not, I'm certain they will show me to the door.

"Why should I hire you?"
The techniques in the article are ones I've used; however, one interviewer told me that there is really only one answer that employers are looking for and that is, "I can make your company money." He said employers want to hear that you are geared to grow the company and the skills and talents you have to accomplish that. He also said this pertains to any position you would be applying for. I have started using this "I can make money for your company" attitude to market myself a little differently in my cover letters and applications with positive results, so he that was some good advice that interviewer gave me.
