Follow up with a thank you note within 24 hours of the interview. Your thank you note should:

  • Be hand-written on a Thank You Card, if your writing is legible. If your handwriting isn’t legible, type your thank you on a good quality, 8.5 x 11 paper (at least 28 lbs.) that’s either cream or white in color.
  • Be simple, brief, and neat.
  • Express your appreciation for the interviewer's time.
  • Show enthusiasm for the job.
  • Tell him/her that you want the job!

Here is a sample thank you note:

Date Dear Mr. ______________________:

I really appreciated the time you took out of your busy schedule to meet with me this afternoon. As I said in the interview, I believe my experience in dealing with new products would fit well within your marketing plan. I am very interested in working for your company.

Per our conversation, I will contact you next Thursday to see if you’ve made your hiring decision. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact me at 555-555-5555 with any additional questions or concerns you may have.
