Finding your dream job is more likely if you keep progressing in your job search instead of taking the first job that is offered to you. I often tell my clients NOT to accept the first job offer, unless it’s a perfect fit, because I find that a lot of people take the first offer out of fear, not because they really want that particular job. They will come back to me a few months later, depressed and hopeless because they hate the new job and want out. Unfortunately, if they quit, there is no severance or unemployment compensation to back them up. So, think carefully before you say yes and accept the position.
There are certain ways to tell if you’ve found your dream job and it’s not too hard to figure out. Have you thought about this job or the aspects of this job for an extended time, say 10 years or more? If so, it could possibly be your dream job. If you fell into a position without any precognition toward the opportunity, it more than likely is not your dream job. Few people fall into their dream job unless, over the span of years, they change either the job or themselves.
So, ask yourself, when applying, is this job something you like or, better yet, LOVE to do? Do you think that not getting this job would be a devastating blow to your life and potential legacy on earth? These questions should be answered positively if you’ve found your dream job. Your dream job should be a passion you can do for hours - it doesn’t feel like work, it feels like fun! That is the purpose of being in love with your career. You excel because you fall in love with the structure, purpose, and time investment necessary to succeed.
