7. Weigh your choice of words. Select strong action verbs and concrete nouns for emphasis.

8. Try your resume out on someone who knows you and will be objective in their opinion.

9. Keep a separate list of references and make them available only upon request.

10. Submit your resume on a paper the reader will remember. Office supply stores have a wide selection of different weight, styles, textured, and colored papers. White, ivory, gray, and natural are always correct and other colors should be avoided. Using a heavy weight paper (no lighter than 28 lbs.) is strongly recommended. Envelopes should match your paper.

11. Always send a cover letter on matching paper addressed to the name and title of the individual who will be making the hiring decision.

12. Remember, your resume is your door opener. Your goal is to get a personal interview!
