Creating a Resume that Works By Corey Harlock, Skills to Achieve I look at anywhere from 50 to 100 resumes every day, and I'm amazed at how BAD 95% of them are . . . on numerous levels. Let me explain... The first time a hiring manager looks at your resume, believe it or not, they do NOT read it. They skim it, looking for the information they need so they can put you in the "maybe" or "no" pile (there is no "yes" or "interview" pile yet). They don’t have time to read every resume — remember, they'll get dozens or even hundreds for a single job posting — so they'll give it a quick skim to see if you have what they're looking for. That’s it. And THIS is where most resumes fail. People try to pack their lifetime of experience into two pages, which is a problem in itself, but then they also include a fancy profile or summary, which acts as a roadblock and really clutters things up.
