It seems like everyone has an opinion about franchising. Whether those opinions paint franchising in a favorable light or have a more negative slant, they are often based on misperceptions, misunderstandings, and downright myths.

1. You should buy a franchise business based on a product or service you are passionate about.

Myth-Buster: In fact, I urge prospective business owners not to buy a business because they love the product. Patronizing a business as a customer and managing a business as an owner are two entirely different scenarios. Do you have the skills to effectively manage the business? Will the business model create the income and future exit strategy you need? Does the business lifestyle gel with your family’s schedule? These are the more important issues that impact your happiness and success, much more so than your personal love affair with the product.
